Civil
The Civil Division of the Court, processes actions brought by the people, businesses or parties to recover property, to force someone to honor a contract, or to protect one's personal rights. This Division handles all civil matters, including family law, juvenile court, probate and small claims.
Small Claims
With the unification of the Municipal and Superior courts, the unified court has jurisdiction over all civil and small claims cases.
Probate
Probate is the legal process of validating a will, supervising the administration of a will and making distribution of estate assets to benficiaries.
JUVENILE
Only persons with a legal right to do so may receive information regarding juvenile cases, such as a parent or legal guardian of the minor. Juvenile matters requre a personal appearance with proper photo identification. Information regarding Juvenile matters is confidential and cannot be given over the phone.
TRAFFIC
Traffic Court handles all adult traffic citations that were issued in Del Norte County. The Traffic Division will handle all trial matters relating to
Mediation
Mediation is a free service and is court ordered by law when parents (and sometimes other parties in a child's life) file papers regarding custody and visitation and they disagree with each other. This can happen when parents separate, divorce, have never married but need to establish paternity, file restraining orders, when soeone files for guardianship of a child or in other numerous situations involving children and those who love them.
